Out on the green

A disability shouldn’t prevent anyone from enjoying the fun (and sometimes frustrating) game of golf, says Dave Sanford, golf pro at Crosswinds Golf Club in Perrysburg.

Teens and adults with physical or cognitive disabilities can golf at Crosswinds every Wednesday evening in September at 6pm. The $10 cost includes greens fees, golf cart, and fun prizes for participants.

“We do our best to accommodate,” says Sanford. “We want everyone to have fun. They can play from a shorter tee, or wherever their ability leads them.” Crosswinds sponsors its Wednesday night program in collaboration with the Lucas County Board of MRDD and the Ability Center of Greater Toledo. Sanford wants to spread the word about the program, and eventually offer golf lessons for disabled individuals.
