We went to The Rocking U Restaurant & Sports Bar recently for dinner. But we are still talking about the downtown Findlay restaurant’s appetizers.

The Rocking U looks like the perfect after-work watering hole or a good spot to catch live entertainment on the stage. For more than 30 years it has served a variety of burgers, sandwiches, pizza and pasta.

A vast variety of options

We started our meal with vegetarian stuffed breadsticks ($5.99) and a half order of potato skins ($4.99). We should have taken the hint when our waitress asked if we wanted to eat those as regular entrées, because the stuffed breadsticks stuffed us! All of us shared the generous helping and we had leftovers. The skins were also a hit. “I could eat those potato things as a regular dinner,” my 11-year-old stated.

We did manage to save some room for our regular meals. My husband had a baked turkey sub with a side salad ($9.49 and $2.99). Our older daughter had chicken with fries off the kids’ menu ($4.50) and I had the baked veggie sub ($6.99). The younger daughter, who recently discovered the delights of fettucini alfredo, ended up ordering the regular-sized portion ($8.99). The verdict? Four happy diners.

Portion control

The Rocking U also helped us set a personal best of three takeout boxes for one dinner out. That included some of those great breadsticks and most of the fettucini, which my nine-year-old just couldn’t finish.

The only thing missing from our meal was the dessert menu – The Rocking U doesn’t have one. But part of the Rocking U tradition is to walk less than a block to Dietsch Brothers for amazing homemade ice cream and candy. So we were still able to get our sweet treat to end our meal.

Next time we go, however, we may end at the beginning with more of those yummy appetizers.
