An artsy image

Crawford Street as the address of the Findlay Art League and the historic Jones Building, provides downtown with a Greenwich Village ambience. Contributing to the growing “art district,” The Gaslight Gallery, 117 E. Crawford St., opened in December. The cooperative endeavor features the work of local artists and includes everything from jewelry to mosaic tables. Gaslight enjoys its first summer and the popularity that comes with offering unique and high quality works of art for sale.

“It’s been exciting working with our fellow artists and actually having an address,” says Janealla Smalley, co-founder.

According to Smalley, local artists were invited to an initial meeting to assess interest in a cooperative in Findlay more than a year ago. More than 25 artists attended and were enthusiastic about sharing work and expenses in exchange for a place to offer their artwork for display and sale. A smaller group was formed and became the Founding Board of Directors for the gallery which is now incorporated as a non-profit organization.

Capturing the atmosphere of a European street market, the Gallery is also coordinating “Art-See-Mart,” an open-air shopping experience
The Gaslight Gallery is open from 11am-6pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 11am-8pm on Fridays and Saturdays. For more info call 419-427-3314 or 419-306-1597.
