Blanchard Valley Health System has received continued funding of $58,375 from the Northwest Ohio Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation to fight breast cancer in Hancock and surrounding counties. The award was part of over $500,000 in community grants awarded to 13 nonprofit organizations in the Komen’s 24-county service area. Komen Northwest Ohio grants 75 percent of the funds it raises to provide mammograms, breast health education and support, as well as other diagnostic services and treatment to uninsured and underinsured individuals in the service area. Remaining funds support research at the national level. Blanchard Valley Hospital’s grant will fund the Mammography Screening Initiative which provides screening and diagnostic mammography services through the EasternWoods Outpatient Center and Bluffton Hospital to qualifying residents of Hancock and surrounding counties.
