For three days every August, Findlay’s Emory Adams Park becomes northwest Ohio’s most colorful location. The Flag City Balloon Fest, scheduled for August 12-14, welcomes 37 hot air balloons, their pilots and crews, in a spectacular display of flight, illumination, skill and adventure. First Federal Bank is this year’s major sponsor.
From Friday’s 7am “media flight” to Sunday’s culminating flight over Findlay, Balloon Fest teems with activities for adults and kids. The Kids’ Fair opens Friday at 3pm and includes inflatables, carnival games and other activities. The Shrine Clowns will be looking for laughs from 5-8pm Friday evening, and tethered balloon rides will be available from 6:15-8pm at a cost of $20. The evening ends with a traditional balloon “glow” at 8:30pm, followed by a family outdoor movie at 9pm. Call 419-422-4131 for movie titles.
The “Up, Up, and Away 5K” winds its way through the park and surrounding neighborhoods at 9am Saturday morning. The annual car show runs from 12-5pm and Bed Race preliminaries begin at noon. Kids can tour NASA’s Journey to Tomorrow exhibit and adults can compete in the Corn Hole Tournament beginning at 12:30pm. The evening wraps up with another balloon illumination and family movie.
Findlay residents will be treated to the sight of balloons against an August sky as pilots bid farewell with a 7am flight over the city on Sunday, August 14.
The entire weekend schedule as well as photos and sponsor information is available at www.flagcityballoonfest.com. Admission to the Balloon Fest is free, with additional charges for food and some activities.
