Parent2Parent is a support group in Findlay designed to refresh and assist parents who care for children with special needs.

"We focus on the parents in this group as parents often need their time as they give so much to help their children," said Antonia Faisant, founder of the group. "It's a great place to get some rest and hopefully refreshment for the month as Parent2Parent likes to make it special for them. I am a parent of a special needs child with multiple diagnoses and I know first hand what it is like to go through obtaining help for my daughter."

Faisant, whose daughter, Mikayla, has Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy and Autism, started the group in January, 2009. Parent2Parent group members share triumphs, educational resources, and connect with other parents who understand. It's a place where parents of special needs children can go and truly say, "We are not alone.”

Parent2Parent provides a main dish for a monthly meal, childcare (respite) at meeting times, and practical gift card giveaways – often from local businesses – such as gas, restaurant, and grocery store cards. The group also features resources, event information and guest speakers who discuss ways to help parents and their children. Group leaders also encourage parents to share their stories, which boosts outward advocacy for their children.

Parent2Parent meets the first Monday of every month at Findlay Evangelical Free Church from 6 to 8pm. Families have dinner together from 6 to 6:30pm followed by meeting time from 6:30 to 8pm. RSVP for childcare is appreciated the Friday prior to the meeting to ensure volunteers and/or meeting supplies. Parents also meet for lunch the second Tuesday of every month.-ER
