The Rolling Thunder Skating and Family Fun Center recently opened in Findlay at 2225 Keith Parkway, across from the Hancock Federal Credit Union off East Melrose Avenue. The 14,000-square-foot facility boasts a 7,200 square-foot skating surface, and is owned by Tim and Lori Thwaits of Carey, Ohio.

The Thwaits promise a family-friendly atmosphere with activities for all ages. While the target demographic is a pre-teen and teen crowd, Tim Thwaits says adults with fond memories of roller-skating are bringing their kids. “Roller-skating has always been good old-fashioned fun for any age,” says Thwaits, who adds that off-duty Findlay policemen are present during peak times. “We promise a family atmosphere but at the same time it’s high energy and exciting for the kids.”

In addition to public skating, Rolling Thunder offers different packages for birthday parties that include tableware, food, admission and skate rental, and more.  Private parties can be scheduled Monday through Wednesday.

Public skating hours are 7 to 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, with a $7 admission, and from 1 to 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays, with a $5.50 admission. Family Nights are from 6:30 to 8:30pm on Thursdays, with a $4 admission.

Skate rental is $2 for regular skates, with sizes ranging from a toddler’s six through adult. Speed skates can be rented for $3. Skaters are welcome to bring their own skates, both roller and in-line. The concession stand features fun favorites like hot dogs, ice cream, burgers, drinks and other snacks. A 21-game arcade keeps non-skaters occupied. Parents who don’t wish to skate can sit in the snack area and watch.
