Right about now, how does spending a warm summer evening enjoying music “under the stars” sound? If the image puts you in a better mood, save your smile for the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation. The Foundation recently awarded a $1,200 grant to the Hancock Parks Foundation to defer expenses for the 2011 Riverside Summer Concert Series.
An annual tradition for 59 years, the Riverside Concert Series provides a variety of musical entertainment for all ages at the Allen P. Dudley Memorial Bandshell in Findlay’s Riverside Park. In addition to the Community Foundation grant, several local businesses, Hancock Friends of the Parks and the Findlay High School Music Boosters are acting sponsors.
The University of Findlay’s Concert-Chorale ushers in spring on Sunday, April 3 at 3pm when it presents “Anthem for Spring” a free concert in the Winebrenner Theological Seminary TLB Auditorium. In addition to “Anthem” other selections include “Amazing Grace,” “How Can I Keep from Singing,” love songs from the movies of the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s and a choral tribute in honor of the 80th birthday of composer Stephen Sondheim.
Tickets for the concert are free but limited and can be obtained through the University box office by calling 419-434-5335. Remaining tickets are available at the door.
