Have you been looking for custom children’s clothing, eye-catching jewelry, amazing hair bows or a one-of-a-kind anything? Then make sure to stop by Kiya Papaya Boutique.
Not only does the boutique stock outfits, accessories and toys for all ages, all items in the store are handmade by Hancock County artisans. Many of the women have Etsy shops in addition to working out of their homes and selling items at the boutique. It is a one-stop shop for some of the best handcrafting in the county.
“All my ladies are so talented, and it’s all handmade here in Hancock County,” says owner Kriss Bishop. “Nothing in the store is over $30 – we are very reasonable. And you don’t have to worry about your daughter having the same outfit as someone else.”
The idea for the boutique started about seven years ago when Bishop began sewing outfits for her daughter Kiya, now 8. Bishop was creative — when favorite jeans got too short, she’d add a fancy ruffle. Friends said she should open a boutique, and she eventually did just that. Kiya Papaya Boutique, named for the rhyming nickname she’d sing her then-infant daughter to sleep with, opened in February.
While the store offers in-stock items, custom orders are welcome. Christening gowns, doll clothes and coordinating mother-daughter outfits are just some of what’s available. Most custom orders take less than a week, Bishop says.
The store also offers a party room that can fit up to 15 children, and can provide decorations and even fancy cupcakes baked by one of the artisans. To complete a theme, the birthday boy or girl can even have a custom outfit made.
Hours are 10am to 6pm Monday through Friday and 10am to 3pm Saturday. For more information, call the store at (419) 957-1743. 213 E. Crawford St.
